Folklore of Park Tae-bo's
There is an interesting folk legend about Park Tae-bo and the Nogangseowon Lecture Hall. Park Tae-bo was a very handsome and wise man.

A lady who worked for the local high official, Lee Jong-yeom, happened to have a crush on him after seeing him just once, and she confessed to the wet nurse of Park Tae-bo about her crush on him. The wet nurse sympathized with her, but couldn't convey the message to him, so she talked to his mother instead. His mother also sympathized with her one-sided love for him, and talked to her husband. His father summoned him and said to him, "if a man breaks woman's heart, his future will be hindered by her contempt." Park Tae-bo could not disobey his father. So, the lady went and talked to his parents, and after that, she wore the hairstyle of a married woman in public all the time.

Time passed by, and Park Tae-bo successfully became a high official, since he was a very smart man, and he thought about the lady less and less. In 1689 (the 15th year of King Sukjong), Janghuibin was so successful in slandering the Queen, the King was about to divorce and dethrone her. Park Tae-bo, who had never been afraid of telling his mind to his superiors, wrote a letter telling the King not to divorce the Queen. This angered the King, and he sent Park Tae-bo in exile to a distant rural location. On his way to the destination, he had to stay at a house of his friend in Noryangjin, because his injury from the interrogation became worse. At this time, a lady came and asked to see him. The visitor was no other than the lady who behaved like she was a married woman earlier. Park Tae-bo on his last breath held her hand, and then he died. She cried and cried, and left. On the day when the Queen was reinstated, and Nogangseowon Lecture Hall was completed, the lady wore customary white clothes worn during funerals, and then hung herself on the rafter at the back of the Lecture Hall.

Nodeul Gangbyeon Riverside
"Nodeul Gangbyeon" is one of the most popular folksongs in Korea, which has been sung around old Nodeul Naruteo Ferry in Dongjak from long time ago. This song was originally rearranged and introduced to the public in a new style of folksong, but as time passed by, it became more like the folksong of today. Its lyrics were written by Sin, who was a famous comedian, and its composer was Mun Ho-wol. Currently, this song is widely used as accompanying piece to dances, and it has bright, yet sad melodies, just like sending away all the sadness on the water of the river. This song makes you imagine the beautiful scenery of weeping willows and the Hangang River around the Nodeul Ferry.
